Charcoal Aloe Lemonade

Our minds are not isolated galaxies, they are a part of our whole body system. Our bodies need to be clean vessels in order to feel fully and honestly. Recent breakthroughs on the microbiome (the community of microorganisms within our body) have clearly defined the direct correlation between our guts and our mind. A study conducted by UC San Francisco showed that the bacteria in our digestive tract may influence our thoughts by releasing signaling molecules into our gut. Fortunately, what we consume directly impacts the state of our microbiome-- which can evolve in minutes.  By taking a break from one meal and instead opting for a detoxifying elixir, we offer an opportunity of rehabilitation for our guts to reset the microbiome. After all, we don’t want our “gut feeling” to come from irritable microorganisms that are rehearsing Les Misérables songs together. In this cleansing lemonade, we’ll be using the beautifying aloe plant that we all know and love.  Aloe is a serious regenerative powerhouse that is still relatively untapped in the superfood realm. The long chain polysaccharides within aloe facilitate detoxification and boost cell-mediated immunity. The mucilage in aloe soothes the digestive tract, just as it soothes our skin after a bad sunburn. Its fresh, organic leaves provide maximum benefits. If you don’t have an aloe plant in your home or can’t find one at a local health food store, Zebra Organics will deliver one right to your door! They harvest every other week from a local farm in Palm Springs.  Charcoal, the active detoxifying agent in this lemonade, traps toxins and gas within the body and eliminates them without the body reabsorbing. You’ll want to use an activated charcoal that is made from coconut shells. (Try to get one that doesn’t have any weird ingredients or sweeteners.) It’s virtually tasteless in the final product and will turn the drink as dark as a night sky!Lemonade 1| INGREDIENTS |1 cup Spring Water3 tablespoons Lemon Juice1” x 3” piece Aloe Vera1½ tablespoons Raw Honey1 capsule Activated CharcoalPinch of Sea SaltOptional: Pinch of Cayenne1 | Filet the green skin off the inner aloe vera meat.
