Routines & Rituals with Sydney Bliss of Milky Oat

Sydney Bliss is an Ayurvedic postpartum doula, mothers’ chef, women’s yoga therapist, and the founder of Milky Oat, a curated & nutrient-dense postpartum meal delivery. Sydney is on a mission to nourish motherhood. Sit down with this multifaceted mama as she shares with THE FULLEST her outlook on intentional living, mindful eating, and ways to find beauty in the everyday.

Q: Please introduce yourself! How did you find yourself in the health & wellness world?

A: I’m a tapestry of the loves of my life: the earth, movement, pleasure, and beauty. I am constantly absorbing, learning, unlearning, and downloading ideas. I found the wellness world at a young age, and became enamored with organic food, yoga, and skincare — in a time and place where it wasn’t popular yet.

I believe a myriad of components of the mundane makeup what it means to be well. I believe the power of our mind is exponential. I believe food has the ability to tether us to the moment and optimize the experience of being human. We can pare it all back and embody our truth at any given moment.

I went down a rabbit hole of menstrual cycle wellness in my early 20s and emerged with a greater understanding of the everpresent rhythms within and around us. That informed my path to becoming completely enveloped with the female form.Beyond my vocational titles, I’m also deeply creative. I spend time at the ocean, travel when I can, write poetry, read fairy tales, pick up and put down projects, and am always changing.

Q: Do you have a consistent daily AM and/or PM routine? Or do you mix it up?

A: As a manifestor in Human Design with an emotional authority and a chart that points to COMPLETE inconsistency — I like to mix it up. I used to try so hard to do the same thing every morning and force myself to adhere. I’m fluid, and therefore, my days, weeks, and months are too. I operate in tandem with my menstrual cycle. I choose my rhythms based on the season. I let life be life.AM (fluctuations):

  • Wake up naturally whenever (5-7:30 am)
  • Tongue Scraping (this is non-negotiable)
  • Hydrate! I love a drop of Nascent Iodine in my water in the mornings and will sometimes add a tsp. of Moon Juice’s Mini Dew for mineral rebalance
  • I practice Kundalini yoga, take a walk at sunrise, do pilates, take a bath, or practice abhyanga massage (like I said, fluid)
  • I usually make a cacao elixir when I’m in my luteal or menstrual phase, and (depending on the season) I’ll have a smoothie or warm egg breakfast. I listen to my body during this time because everyday is different.

Q: How does the natural world support your modern life?

A: “Ocean Time” appears on my calendar as often as possible. I get into nature on my walks or hikes. The natural world is me. I am it.

Q: Do you have any rituals that you practice daily, weekly, or monthly?

A: Kundalini Yoga is a beautiful practice that I incorporate into my weekly routine as often as it feels good. I love practicing with Kia Miller on Glo. I go for a walk just about every day. Food is at the helm of my life, so I go to the farmers market every Sunday and spend a lot of time creating, eating, and playing with food. My husband is a renowned chef, so things are all about food over here.

We love the rustic approach to eating, food that is “lived in,” if that makes sense. Like a home you walk into and see the books half open and turned over, the pans on the stove, the life, the joy emanating. That’s the kind of food I like. Delicious, joyful, of the earth, and made for relishing. No tweezers.

I recently created a RHYTHMS calendar with ideas for the days of the week to stay grounded while building a business.

  • Monday: gardening/art
  • Tuesday: movie night & oysters
  • Wednesday: beach afternoon & grill out
  • Thursday: family board games & dinner night
  • Friday: date night
  • Saturday: free flow
  • Sunday: deep cleanse reset

Q: Are there any particular foods or botanicals that align with your beauty routine or self-care practice?

A: Only all of them — but I’ll list some out! Just pretend the word “sometimes” is in front of each one.

Q: What is a piece of advice that you live your life by?

A: Don’t be afraid of it coming or going. This statement came to me in Savasana probably ten years ago. I wrote it in my phone notes and constantly remember it. I imagine this as one of those breathing balls expanding and contracting, or the waves of the ocean ebbing and flowing, or the seasons of the year cycling. That’s life! It is an opportunity to be here now.Sydney Bliss began supporting new mothers after years of fine-tuning her cyclical rhythms. As a women's yoga therapist, ayurvedic postpartum doula, kitchen herbalist, and mothers' chef, she created Milky Oat. This intentionally curated postpartum meal delivery service offers mothers the nourishing support they need following birth and throughout the intimate postpartum season. Milky Oat works with local farms and regenerative purveyors, offering an entirely organic, gluten-free, refined sugar-free, dairy-free, and refined oil-free menu explicitly tailored to early motherhood, and uses traditional cooking methods for optimal digestion and assimilation of nutrient-dense ingredients to replenish the body after birth.
