Routines & Rituals with Danielle DuBoise

In this month’s Routines & Rituals, we were honored to sit down with Danielle DuBoise, Sakara Life co-founder and co-CEO. If you haven’t heard of Sakara, you’re in for a plant-forward treat. Sakara delivers organic, plant-rich meals and products to doorsteps nationwide. But more than that, they aim to nourish bodies and change lives. Outside of guiding and running the Sakara food delivery service, you’ll also find Danielle co-hosting a podcast, supporting the Sakara Life community, hosting events, and caring for her two gorgeous children. To support herself through all these experiences, Danielle has some consistent go-to practices that prioritize joy, nourishment, and grounding. Read on for her favorite routines and rituals.

Q. Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and Sakara? Did plant-based eating find you or did you find it?

Sakara was created when Whitney and I hit our personal rock bottoms. I suffered from disordered eating and Whitney had a lifelong struggle with acne. I was studying medicine and working in a hospital and was inspired to study nutrition to help myself, Whitney, and all the patients I was seeing get better through food. After learning about the importance of the microbiome, nutrigenomics, and food as medicine, we developed a plant-forward nutrition system that was so transformative, we decided to help other people transform their lives as well. From this, Sakara was born and we’ve made it our mission to give people the tools to transform their health and happiness. You can now order our nutrition program (fresh, organic, ready-to-eat meals) anywhere in the US!

Q. Do you have a consistent daily AM and/or PM routine? Or do you mix it up?

AM routine:Kiss my children and my husband. My little ones usually wake us up with a smile and it’s changed my entire being, waking up to those faces makes it really hard to have a bad day :) Right now, I’m really into making my own latte with our Metabolism Powder. I make my own almond and coconut milk, then use a frother to combine the milk and Metabolism Powder so it’s frothy. After that, I pour it over a cup of coffee (I love Canyon Coffee). I wake up so early with the little ones, so I’m often not hungry for a few hours. I still have Sakara meals delivered every week, so I eat one of our breakfasts once I’m hungry.PM routine:At the end of a long day, I like to turn on Joni Mitchell and dance with my three-year-old. It always calms me down. For nights when I need a little more help, I will unwind by doing guided breathing and a meditation from Ziva Meditation along with a cup of Sakara Sleep Tea. I also set aside time each night for my self-care routine and find that it helps me relax before bed. On nights when I want to do something extra luxurious, I’ll steam my face over a boiling pot with 2-3 bags of Sakara Detox Tea inside. It’s very high in antioxidants and helps cleanse the pores. On my nightstand, I always keep my bedtime beauty essentials, water, and hand cream. I’m a big fan of a well done, sexy pajama — sets me up for a night of great sleep! I love Fleur Du Mal and Sleeper.

Q. How does the natural world support your modern life?

More like, how do I get my modern world more in sync with the natural world :) I eat a lot of organic plants and I swear that alone can do wonders for how connected we are to Mother Earth.

Q. Do you have any rituals that you practice daily, weekly, or monthly?

Dance every day! It changes your entire mood and reminds you that the best things in life are simple and pure. It also helps put me in my body. I’m a Gemini (air sign), so I need to move a lot to feel grounded.

Q. Are there any particular foods or botanicals that align with your beauty routine or self-care practice?

Minerals: We often forget that skincare starts with what we put into our bodies. Modern agriculture practices have stripped the earth’s soil — and therefore, also stripped minerals from the produce grown in the ground — leaving an estimated 90% of Americans mineral deficient. I use Sakara Beauty Water Drops every day to deeply hydrate my cells, help maintain ideal pH balance for lower inflammation, and flush out toxins and bloat, resulting in clearer skin.Schisandra: An ancient berry with high concentrations of antioxidants and enzymes, which helps with liver detoxification and ridding the body of metabolic, cellular, and toxic waste (also found in our Youth + Beauty Tea).

Q. What do you wish people knew about plant-based eating?

Eating this way allowed me to truly get to the root of my issues and realize the connection and role food plays in how we feel spiritually, mentally, and physically. It’s also taught me the importance of mind-body connection and above all, eating as close to the source as possible as a way to reconnect with nature and heal through nourishment. The biggest benefit from eating plant-based is that it provides your body with key nutrients that play a major role in significantly improving immunity, skin clarity, fertility, and mental health. The benefits of a plant-based diet are endless. The more you nourish, the better you feel. For 20% off your first Sakara order, use code XOTHEFULLEST at checkout!Danielle DuBoise is the Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Sakara Life, a wellness company providing the tools necessary to achieve optimal health and vitality.
