In My Orbit with Lenéa Sims

At any given point, each of us has a bunch of people, places, and practices that are circling us and influencing our lives in a variety of ways. This week, we chat with Lenéa Sims, the founder of two digital communities — Inner Play and Outer Work — dedicated to building skills for radically joyful and sustainable self-care and community care, respectively. Therefore, it’s not surprising that the things orbiting her world are full of connection and playfulness.

This is obviously a moving target — but what’s your current wellness philosophy?

Be nice to yourself and other people. Have more fun. Listen to your heart.

Which foods are currently taking prime position in your kitchen pantry?

I try to keep a mostly grain-free diet so always lots of beans and potatoes for carbs. My partner is an avid Asian home-cook so we also have entire shelves dedicated to Asian sauces, seasonings, seaweeds, and noodle varieties. Oh and always a shit ton of tea.

What’s your works-every-single-time mood booster?

Moving to our stoned + dancing playlist.

The last thing you Googled?

Very randomly...orange and purple anemone flowers. I was trying to prove a point ;)

Who — or what — can you count on to make you laugh?

My partner Cameron and my best friends, Nolan and Raquel. We all bring the goober out in each other!

Is there a practice, item, or piece of wisdom you’ve kept from childhood that still holds meaning for you today?

My healing journey has required me to form an inseparable bond with my inner child. So, my inner child and I are in constant communication, every day. Everything I do, I do for her peace.

When do you feel most beautiful?

When I’m talking a mile a minute, making people laugh, sharing my ideas, making people think. When I’m witnessing someone discover their depths, or better yet encouraging them to. When any body of water makes contact with my skin. When I let myself be fully seen and bring love to the parts of me that try to hide.

Are there any healers or teachers you have on speed dial?My mom, dad, and closest friends.

What’s your preferred movement practice?

Lately, yoga, dance, and hiking. Nothing serious but all deeply sacred.

Do you have a dream floating in your orbit that’s not yet realized?

Yes and no. I guess I believe that everything is being realized, always. My desires are just moving at their own pace and presenting themselves differently — more perfectly — than I could have ever envisioned. That said, I dream of writing books, teaching more people, making more art, sharing more ideas, and building tighter and larger communities.

How does THE FULLEST align with you and fit into your life?

My life sometimes feels like one giant game to maximize my potential and, tbh, I love it that way. I feel like THE FULLEST serves me big enjoyment vibes and I’m here for that.Lenéa is a spiritual guide who writes and teaches primarily about how to cultivate a deeper connection to self and to others, joyfully. Her work has been featured in Paper and Essence as well as on-stage at SXSW where she spoke about energetic self-care in 2018 at the inaugural wellness expo. Lenéa also is a pet mom to Carrot, Potato, and Butter — two cats and a puppy who you can stalk on her Instagram.
