Ovaltine Shake 3.0

Are you old enough to remember all the 90’s Ovaltine hype? The chocolate-malt morning beverage promised to be full of all the essential vitamins and minerals you’d ever need to fuel you throughout your day. A morning go-to for kids from the 80’s and 90’s, it’s questionable exactly how healthy it really was. So, for the sake of today’s on-the-go breakfast consumers, we’ve upgraded it with our favorite modern superfoods. Perfect for a pick-me-up or fit for dessert, this version is packed with brain, skin, and stress-soothing treats like maca, carob, and tocos. Add in a dash of lucuma and taste all your malty dreams come true!

CHOCO-MALTY SHAKE INGREDIENTS

2 cups Nut Milk (or milk of your choice)1 cup Coconut Cream2 tablespoons Cacao Powder2 tablespoons Carob Powder 1 teaspoon Gelatinized Maca3 teaspoons Vanilla Powder 1 tablespoon Lucuma Powder1 tablespoon Tocos1 teaspoon Ceylon Cinnamon (optional)

CHOCO-MALTY SHAKE ASSEMBLY

1 | In a high-speed blender, pour in the nut milk and coconut cream and blend on medium speed until mixed. 2 | Add in the rest of the ingredients and continue blending on medium speed until mixed. (You may need to stop blending a couple times to move powder from the blender walls down into the liquid.) To ensure all powders are blended, run a fork through the mixture making sure there are no bubbles.3 | Taste and check the texture. If it is too thick, add more milk (or frozen milk cubes if you want it cold and slushy). If you’d like it thicker, add a bit more coconut cream. 4 | Once the desired texture has been achieved, sprinkle Ceylon cinnamon for a slightly spicy taste.*Yields 2 to 3.Christine Dionese, co-founder of flavor ID is an integrative, epigenetic health and food therapy specialist and writer with nearly two decades of research and practice in the field.
