Meet Fabienne, the Aussie Gem Behind YCL Jewels

Fabienne founded YCL Jewels in 2013. Prior to launching YCL she was a nurse in an aged care facility. She began making jewelry as a hobby more than 10 years ago and is completely self-taught. Today, her creations have been worn by household names such as internationally renowned singer Lorde, Lena Perminova and Nathalie Kelley, and are shipped daily to more than 85 countries around the world. The label is driven by Fab’s own values and, as a result, is 100% cruelty free.We caught up with the designer to ask her to share the seven things most influencing her life right now. This is what she said:1 | Painting -- As a designer, I love creating in different ways. I love using oil and water paints, and have a tendency to paint flowers.2 | Reading books on topics I have no knowledge of -- Currently I am immersed in a book about the history of the lost kingdoms of Europe. 3 | My cocoa and mushroom tonic -- I am cutting back on coffee, as it wasn’t doing the best things for me mentally, so lately I’ve been making a tonic with a mixture of mushroom powders, cacao, coconut oil, cinnamon, cardamom and coconut milk, blended. Yum!4 | Self-studying art -- I am recently discovering how very inspired by the ages of art I am. Right now I’m researching the origins of the Impressionism Movement. 5 | Foraging -- I love a good forage. The natural shape and forms nature takes around us inspire me, as do the presence they cultivate when I stop to pick something up that caught my eye.6 | Space -- Currently making space is a theme in my life -- making space both in the YCL Jewels studio and in my relationships. When we allow room to simply be, we shed judgement, attachment and expectation, allowing ourselves to morph and move in whatever direction feels right.7 | Writing -- This is something I love. It isn't until recently that I've stopped and started making time to put pen to paper. Every year, I keep a journal that I write in a few times a week or whenever I feel called to. I write a lot of poetry and am always inspired by the beauty of words.
