Deborah Hanekamp

Deborah Hanekamp, aka Mama Medicine, is both a Seeress and Medicine Woman carrying over 15 years in the healing arts as an Amazonian Curandera, Reiki Master and Yogi. Guided by the present moment, Deborah has facilitated medicine readings and healing ceremonies all over the world. Her work has been featured in the New York Times, Refinery29 & The Numinous. She is the creator and sole proprietor of Medicine Readings which offers life-altering personal ceremonies performed by her either in person or through Skype. Her message is one of encouragement, healing and unity. We met Deborah at the Spirit Weavers Gathering in Mendocino and were immediately struck by how soft and graceful she is, while being so young and accomplished and still completely grounded. While she regularly connects both herself and others to different realms, she remains balanced--successfully managing a marriage, baby and wonderful career.Wanting to learn everything we can from this ethereal and inspiring creature we asked her to share with P+S just what is making her life better at the moment. Here is what she had to say:Mama Medicine 21 | Family Time--As a mama who travels for work, I have to remind myself that my work is a representation of my love for my husband, daughter and dog baby. I want to teach my daughter to be strong and independent and so I must lead by example. On my days off we love integrating as a family with staycations--visiting NYC's vast array of parks, beaches and museums are all things you will find us doing. We're currently loving The Whitney Museum's Open Studio.2 | Loungewear and sleep masks--I've always worn t-shirts and leggings to bed but recently I discovered having proper pajamas and a sleep mask can be a game changer when it comes to the quality of rest I get. I love Earthen Warrior's sleep masks and loungewear.3 | The Gift--This book by Hafiz is my lullaby. 4 | Zen Meditation--The nature of my work requires me to take time daily in silence and stillness. I began practicing Zen Meditation 14 years ago and love it because of the focus on simplicity.5 | Crystal Energy Healing Manicures--In Medicine Readings I channel a lot of energy through my hands. Local Honey's Crystal Healing Manicure feels amazingly cleansing and nourishing for me.6 | Facial Guasha with Jade--My dear friend and Rockstar Esthetician Britta Plug recently got me into a simple facial guasha routine that I combine with Mullein & Sparrow's Complete Skincare Kit to end my day. I find this practice deeply meditative, causing me to sleep better and my skin to feel so much softer.7 | Ashitaba--This tonic from Sun Potion is my new secret rocket fuel!
