New Year’s Bowl of Goodness + Mindful Eating Resolutions
To set steadfast resolutions is probably one of the most stressful ways to start the new year. If you're living a certain way, to expect that you will wake up on January 1st (perhaps slightly hungover) and start a routine that you will continue, just isn't ultimately realistic. How many of you have said you will start a routine New Year's Day and then push it back "just to the next weekend," "just to the end of January," "just after Valentines." Hello!? We are all guilty as charged. We're not trying to be downers, or say that you shouldn't strive for self-improvement. We thrive on self-improvement. The mission of Poppy & Seed is to plant small seeds of inspiration that will spark positive change in all of us. Real change. Positive change. Permanent change. It's impossible for most people to set a new life in motion without taking one step (one day) at a time. Just breathe. The number one way to defeat yourself is to become overwhelmed. Calm the monkey mind. We find that one of the best ways to navigate the inner chaos is to sit down with a pen and paper and prioritize. Get that list physically out to manifest it properly. But we're really writing this article to talk about food… Dietary change is probably the number one New Year's resolution. "This year, I will eat healthier," but what does it mean to eat healthier? To lose weight? To get stronger? Detox more? Drink less? Exercise more? Eat less gluten? If you are new to health and wellness, navigating dietary recommendations can be completely overwhelming. If you're transitioning from a standard American diet, are you really going to turn into a green juice-quaffing, tonic-brewing, gluten-free fanatic overnight? Probably not, but that's OK. It's perfect actually. Curiosity and openness to living a healthier lifestyle is the biggest hurdle, and the number one way to make positive change. We're writing this article also for our readers who we recognize as being conscious, educated, and most likely "healthy" consumers, when it comes to diet. So what do we need to change? What do we all need to change, no matter what our diet? For this year's resolution, we're encouraging everyone to practice mindful eating and appreciation. No matter what you eat. If you focus on mindful eating, we guarantee that you will feel healthier, lose weight if you need to, digest better, and all of that noise of "what to eat" will start to drop away. You will be listening to your body. The way we eat changes the vibration and effect of food on our bodies. A plate of food is a precious resource that we perpetually take for granted. Chewing your food properly, breathing deeply, and honoring the efforts of getting that food on your plate, or that juice in the bottle, is essential to experiencing truly nourishing cuisine. And oh…eat more vegetables and ferments...if you can! For most of us adding something into our diet is much easier than eliminating. At Poppy & Seed, we focus on a balanced plate including a clean protein, greens, healthy fats, ferments, and minimal starch. We believe in filling ourselves with the cleanest, seasonal, and locally available ingredients we can find. We strive to nourish our minds and bodies with grounding and healing cuisine.Below is a rough recipe for our favorite bowl. We eat a similar version of this for lunch every day. Mix it up, however you would like, depending on the season and ingredient availability. We guarantee this combo will leave you feeling super grounded, energized, and satisfied. Happy New Year and cheers to adding in the good to replace the bad! New Year’s Bowl of Goodness | Ingredients |
